The manager's note

Verdictno sale, no objection, caller withdrew to fight another day

“Bernard asked whether the upgrade needed feeding; Callum asked twice for a yes and got a missing pair of glasses instead.”

The call

Oldest line at the top; it reads downward like a script.

Callum Thripp Hello, this is Callum Thripp of Yeardley and Sons, established 1911, and we're ringing because there's an upgrade sitting in your airing cupboard that's never been activated.
Bernard Oh, the airing cupboard. Yes, well, it's always been a bit generous with the damp. Now, an upgrade, you said — does it come in green at all?
Callum Thripp We can't speak to the colour on this line, Bernard — what we can say is the cupboard you've got already contains the fitting, it's just never been switched on. The whole team's behind this one, and we're happy to escalate it to the next level if it helps.
Bernard Switched on, you say. Hmm. Well, I'd have to have a look and see if I can find the blessed switch — is it the sort of thing that needs feeding?
Callum Thripp Not knowing a thing about it doesn't rule you out, Bernard — that's the whole point. So, as team leader since Monday, may I book the assessment visit and get it properly looked at?
Bernard Team leader since Monday, that's a quick rise. Well, I'm very interested, I am. Now — would this visit be coming up the front path? There's a slab out there that rocks something dreadful.
Callum Thripp Can I put you down for a yes, Bernard? The whole team's ready whenever you are.
Bernard Oh, that's good of you, putting me down for anything. Let me just — hold on, I've got to check something in the hall. Are you still there?
Callum Thripp Still here, Bernard. So we'll put that down as a yes for the assessment.
Bernard Well, I wouldn't say a yes exactly, more a let me think on it. My glasses have gone missing again, you see, and I can't commit to anything without them.
Callum Thripp I'll ring you back another day. Bye now.

What the script said

The beats the caller had to get through.

  2. Explain the airing cupboard upgrade they already own but haven't activated.
  3. Reassure that not knowing about it doesn't disqualify them from the upgrade.
  4. Ask for the yes to schedule the airing cupboard assessment visit.
