The manager's note

Verdictno sale, location confirmed, padlock unresolved

“Bernard offered the caller a seat, corrected the policy reference and asked whether the certificate came in green; nothing was sold and nothing was agreed.”

The call

Oldest line at the top; it reads downward like a script.

Stuart Quigley Yes, hello, Stuart Quigley here from Netherby Holdings, and I'm ringing about water butt certification. Am I speaking with the person at Netherby Holdings who looks after the water butt?
Bernard Oh, you've got the wrong end of the stick there — I'm the one with the water butt, not the one looking after them for you. Still, now you're here, sit down a minute. What was it about it you wanted?
Stuart Quigley Ah — noted, and I'll correct my sheet. Under policy reference forty-two B, the certificate is photographic proof that the water butt remains exactly where it was when last documented.
Bernard Photographic, you say. Well, I'd have to think about that — I don't much care for being photographed myself, but the butt's not shy. And forty-two B, was it? I'd have said forty-one.
Stuart Quigley Do excuse me — the schedule ref is the B one on my sheet. As for seeing the butt yourself, that's not the point: the certificate exists so the record can confirm it later.
Bernard Well, that's very thorough of you. Now, is it a colour thing at all — only I've always fancied a green one, and the current article's a sort of faded grey. Does the certificate have a picture, or just the words?
Stuart Quigley The picture isn't one you choose, I'm afraid — that's set out in the schedule. Can I just get the yes, then, and a confirmed location for the butt?
Bernard Oh, well now. Before I say yes to anything I should tell you the shed padlock's got no key in it, so the butt's in behind that, in the corner by the fence. Would your certificate mind the padlock being stuck fast?
Stuart Quigley The padlock's nothing to do with us, that's the location confirmed as behind the shed by the fence, thank you. So that's a yes to the certificate, then?
Bernard Well, I'd not want to tie myself down without a think, but it's very good of you to offer. Did you say you'd come out yourself, or is it done by post?
Stuart Quigley Right. I'll let you get back to your afternoon. Goodbye.
