The manager's note

Verdictno sale, no objection, caller withdrew on his own motion

“Caller ended the call himself; Bernard saw him off warmly and wished him safe home, having agreed to nothing and declined nothing.”

The call

Oldest line at the top; it reads downward like a script.

Declan Underhill Hello there, Declan Underhill here from Kowalski Driveway Sealing Ltd — we're just ringing to make sure we've got the right property and the right shed on file.
Bernard Oh, hello there — you've caught me in the middle of something, but carry on, carry on. A shed, did you say? Yes, I've got one out the back, the little wooden one with the crooked door. Mind you, the bird's taken a shine to it.
Declan Underhill Lovely, thank you, that's the one we've got noted. So the fortnightly shed ch— sorry, the check, it simply turns up, no arrangement needed on your side at all, we just come by every two weeks and take a look.
Bernard Well, that's very good of you. And it just turns up, does it, like the milk float? Only that one comes round early and the brakes on it are frightful — you can hear it coming a street away. Sorry, what was it you're looking at in the shed?
Declan Underhill That's the thing, some folks do ask why nobody invited us — and honestly, we hear that a lot, and it's fine, we just carry on. It's the shed we're checking, and the next visit's already down in the book.
Bernard Oh, I wouldn't dream of making a fuss about an invitation — you're very welcome, people don't call round half enough. I'd have to think about the book, though. Is it a big book? And would you want a cup of tea when you come by?
Declan Underhill So if we can just say yes to the fortnightly check, that's us sorted and I'll pop it down. As team leader I can escalate it if you'd rather a manager called you about it.
Bernard A manager, now? Well, I'm sure that's not necessary — you've been perfectly clear. Only I'm not quite sure what I'm saying yes to, is what I mean. Fortnightly, you said? Was that the word? I had it down as something else entirely.
Declan Underhill Fortnightly, yes — every two weeks, unbidden, and I know that sounds odd when you say it back to me. Honestly, I've rather lost where we were myself, so we'll leave it for now and I'll try you another day.
Bernard Ah, that's a shame — I'm sorry to hear it, you were doing marvellously. I was very interested, truly, so you mind how you go now, and safe home.
Declan Underhill I'll ring you back another day. Bye now.

What the script said

The beats the caller had to get through.

  1. Open by confirming you have the right property and shed.
  2. Explain the fortnightly shed check that simply turns up.
  3. Brush off the objection that nobody asked you to come.
  4. Ask for the yes and imply the next visit is already booked.
