The manager's note

Verdictno sale, no objection, caller withdrew the offer

“Bernard raised no objection to the panel, only to his loft hatch; Bronwen ended it herself and was thanked for the chat.”

The call

Oldest line at the top; it reads downward like a script.

Bronwen Cresswell Hello there, Bronwen Cresswell here from The Trust for the Preservation of Porches, and I'm ringing about your fence panel — it's given such long and faithful service, hasn't it? Brilliant.
Bernard Oh, it has. Years of it. You know, I've got notices pinned up inside my porch and I can't get the door open past them — but go on, you were saying about the panel.
Bronwen Cresswell Ha, that's lovely, thank you for that. So the trust's whole idea is we swap out fence panels before they ever look worn — get ahead of it, isn't that wonderful?
Bernard Before they look worn? Now that's a funny notion. It doesn't look worn at all, mind you. Well, I suppose that's the point. What happens to the old one, does it go somewhere nice?
Bronwen Cresswell Ha, that's a good one! Well, here's the thing — a panel that looks fine on the surface can still be quietly failing underneath, and that's exactly the sort of thing we catch.
Bernard Quietly failing. Oh dear. Like my loft hatch — holds up fine, then it comes down on you when you least expect it. Is there a way of telling, or does it just keep it to itself?
Bronwen Cresswell That's the beauty of it, we do the telling for you! So — could I get you pencilled in for a replacement this week?
Bernard Well, that's very good of you. I'd have to think about it, only I'm not sure my week's my own. Could it wait till after I've seen to this hatch?
Bronwen Cresswell Not a problem at all, that's really helpful feedback. I'll give you a ring back another day, then — lovely to have chatted.
Bernard Sorry to hear that, I was very interested. You take care now, and mind the traffic on the way home.
Bronwen Cresswell I'll ring you back another day. Bye now.

What the script said

The beats the caller had to get through.

  1. Open by praising their fence panel's long and faithful service.
  2. Explain the trust replaces fence panels before they show wear.
  3. Counter that an unbroken panel can still be quietly failing.
  4. Ask permission to schedule the replacement for this week.
