“Caller asked whether the plan came in green; the plan does not come in green, and the shelves have to come out anyway.”

The call

Oldest line at the top; it reads downward like a script.

Gerald Pratt Good evening, I'm calling from the Oakhurst Household Planning Bureau — am I speaking with the owner of the oven?
Bernard Oh — hello! Yes, that's me, I'm the owner. Well, I own it, I'm not sure it'd say the same about me. Is this about the — sorry, the Oakhurst what was it? My hearing's fine, it's the phone that's muffled.
Gerald Pratt Oakhurst Household Planning Bureau, that's right. Bernard, the thing is, static oven shelves are a hidden risk to even browning — you'd never know until your scones come out lopsided.
Bernard Lopsided scones, you say. Oh, that explains a great deal — my last batch came out looking like they'd been in a fight. And it's the Hare's Foot Bureau, is it? That's a nice name. Now, are you warm enough out there?
Gerald Pratt Oakhurst, Bernard — Oakhurst. And I'm quite warm, thank you. Now, with our plan you get a quarterly rotation schedule, so your shelves get turned a proper quarter turn four times a year.
Bernard Four times a year, right you are. And is that a quarter turn each time or a quarter of them turned? Sorry — the Hare's Foot, yes. Do you take tea, Gerald? I've just put the kettle on and it's no trouble.
Gerald Pratt That's a quarter turn each time, all of them. And here's the thing people miss — the shelves have to come out before they can be rotated, so you'd be lifting them out four times a year, which is really what the plan smooths over for you.
Bernard Lifted out — well, that's the bit I'd struggle with, my shoulders aren't what they were. Oh, and Mavis would have something to say about shelves coming out. She's the parrot. She'd want a go on them.
Gerald Pratt Your shoulders are exactly who this plan is for. It's a modest monthly fee, billed whether the shelves move or not, and at forty dollars a month that's peace of mind.
Bernard Forty a month — that's very reasonable, in the imaginary sense. Now would that come in green, do you know? Only my kitchen's all green and the shelves are a sort of beige, and Mavis notices these things.
